We celebrated our Math Olympiads and Ms. Maria Soria, G & T: Several students from School Four were among the nearly 150,000 students worldwide to participate this year in the Math Olympiad program. These fourth grade students participate in a series of five monthly of 5 problems each from November to March. The students responded well and all were recognized with certificates for their participation. An embroidered felt patch was awarded to those in the top 50% of all participants, including the following students: Jason H, Thomas L, Alisha M, Lindsey C, Michelle K, Jenny S, and Dylan S. The silver pin is awarded to those in the top 10% of all participants, including the following students, Yifan K and Isabel K. The highest individual scorer trophy for the School Four/School Two team is awarded to Yifan K. |

SCHOOL 4 GARDEN IS TAKING SHAPE: We are very proud to announce the creation of our School 4 Garden. Our garden was an idea that developed at one of our Parent/Principal meetings. The idea has taken shape through the winter with the formation of our Garden Club, under the voluntary supervision of Ms. Michelle Rios-Fornes. Our Garden Club currently has sixty student members from 2nd through 6th grade. Parent volunteers will be constructing the garden this weekend lead by Mrs. Stefany Koslow a parent of one of our sixth graders. Our garden will provide an excellent resource for all of our students, K through 6th, to develop hands-on science and nature experiences and knowledge.

To School 4 from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office: Congratulations! Your students are winners in the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office “Don’t Stand By for Bullying” contest. Simon Gak and Nicholas Chung at Fort Lee School #4, Mrs. Rizzo’s class, are the winning team in the 3rd grade category. We invite each student and one parent/guardian to a lunch ceremony at our SNAP conference on April 24, where we will acknowledge the winning entries.

A student from School 4 representing Fort Lee BOE recently received a perfect score in the second of three meets for this year’s WordMasters Challenge™—a national vocabulary competition involving nearly 150,000 students annually. Sixth grader Lily Koslow earned a perfect score in the February meet. Nationally, only 71 sixth graders achieved a perfect score. Other students at Fort Lee BOE who achieved outstanding results in the meet include sixth grader Bertina Kudrin. The students were coached in preparation for the WordMasters Challenge™ by Maria Luisa Soria. The WordMasters Challenge™ is an exercise in critical thinking that first encourages students to become familiar with a set of interesting new words (considerably harder than grade level), and then challenges them to use those words to complete analogies expressing various kinds of logical relationships. http://www.wordmasterschallenge.com.
