Myung Jin Chung
It is a big honor for me to have been chosen as the School #4 Teacher of the Year 2016-2017.
I would like to share this award with all my colleagues and administrators who have supported and encouraged me during my career as a Korean bilingual teacher. Having personally experienced the challenging and often frustrating journey of learning English as a second language and understanding American social norms, it has been a life goal for me to aid others during their periods of transition.
From the moment I started teaching Korean bilingual students in 2001 in Fort Lee, every class posed the daunting challenge of how to not only teach the required curriculum, but also how to enable students to tackle the underlying doubts and insecurities that come with starting a new life in a different environment. The last 15 years have not been without its fair share of tears and late night calls with parents, but the privilege of witnessing children blossom from timid newcomers to confident young adults has always been and always will be my most humbling life moments.
However, I would be remiss if I did not give credit to my tremendously supportive colleagues who have fought for me and provided a deep well of encouragement when I needed it the most. I would also like to acknowledge the parents for entrusting me with their children – I cannot express how important the teamwork that we’ve developed is.
Thank you again for this great honor, I am truly blessed to be a member of a great Fort Lee school family.
My Name is Stephanie Borgono and I am the Social Worker for Schools #3 and #4.
My life’s passion was to help others who were struggling with a disability or dealing with trauma. In turn, I decided to pursue a career, which involved this passion in Social Work.
Currently, I’m working with children who have special needs. Seeing how these children flourish, year after year, is the most rewarding to my colleagues and myself.
It is an honor to be selected the recipient of 2016-2017 educational services professional of the year.
